Therapy
I have therapy training at a doctorate level and 33 years of experience in psychotherapy. I have a passion for working with clients in therapy and have formed close professional bonds with clients spanning over several decades. I have kept my love for working with children and the privilege of having been a mother, has provided and keeps providing me with valuable experience.
It is hard to minimise a therapeutic model to a singular paradigm after a long career, but I would say that my therapy model is based on cognitive behavioural theory and social constructionism (Narrative Therapy). I am inspired by research done over the past years on neuroplasticity and its implications for therapy. I have an interest in clients suffering chronic pain and illness. Each client is a unique person with unique needs and life experiences and requires flexibility of therapeutic approach. I keep being amazed at the resourcefulness and the resilience of clients and that inspires me and makes my work enriching and enjoyable.
With client’s permission, I work closely with their general practitioners, psychiatrists and other relevant professionals as transparency and effective communication is in the interest of client’s progress. When hospital admission is required, I ensure continuation for client’s therapy during and after their admission.
I work with client’s with a range of challenges varying from relationship issues, emotional difficulties, parenting problems, psychiatric and other mental health challenges.
Scholastic and Psychometric Assessments
I find deep fulfilment in both therapy and assessments, as each requires a unique set of skills and allows me to offer holistic support. Assessments provide valuable insights into an individual’s cognitive abilities, academic strengths, and challenges, helping to identify conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, academic difficulties, and intellectual disabilities. With these insights, parents, educators, and professionals can implement tailored strategies to support growth and success.
My background as a teacher and my experience leading a remedial school for an NGO have given me a strong understanding of the challenges faced by parents and educators. I am well-versed in mainstream and private school systems, as well as the processes of educational bodies such as the Department of Education and UMALUSI. I assist with applications for special education classification and concessions for exams, ensuring that learners receive the support they need.
Collaboration is central to my approach. I have worked closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, remedial teachers, and educators. This experience has reinforced my commitment to transparency, feedback, and professional input when assessing and supporting clients.
Efficient and timely report writing is a key aspect of my practice. I ensure that assessment reports meet the needs of schools, parents, educational institutions, and regulatory bodies. By providing clear, detailed, and timely reports, I aim to support my clients in accessing the right interventions and opportunities for success.
Online Therapy
I believe that therapy should be accessible and flexible, no matter where you are. Online therapy offers a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and emotions from the comfort of your own home.
With online sessions, you receive the same compassionate care as in-person therapy, without the barrier of travel.
