Guiding You Towards Healing & Growth
Hello, and welcome! I’m Dr Riette de Lauwere, a clinical psychologist with over 33 years of experience working with individuals of all ages.
I’m a wife, mother, and grandmother who feels fortunate to live in the beautiful Eastern Cape, where I’ve made my home for the past three decades. After moving here from Johannesburg to pursue post-graduate studies, I quickly fell in love with the natural beauty and peaceful pace of life by the coast.
My professional path has been shaped by my passion for helping others. I began my academic journey in education, earning my BA-Education before completing an Honours Degree in psychology. As I started my career as a teacher, I realised I wanted to learn more about the psychological aspects of human development. That led me to complete a Masters in Clinical Psychology, followed by a Doctorate in Practical Theology. This combination of psychology and theology allows me to bring a holistic approach to therapy, one that considers both the mind and spirit.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, teens, and adults, offering support through therapy and assessments. My heart lies in the therapeutic process; there’s nothing more rewarding than working closely with clients, building trust, and watching them thrive. I enjoy working with children, and I understand the joys and challenges of raising children.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of specialising in a wide range of areas, including individual therapy, scholastic assessments, and working with clients facing emotional challenges, relationship difficulties and mental health disorders. I did psychotherapy training at a Doctorate level with the focus on social constructionism (Narrative Therapy) but I have strong roots in the cognitive behaviour therapy model. A more recent interest has been the role of neuroplasticity in psychotherapy.
I’m inspired daily by the resilience and strength of my clients, which fuels my passion for helping them heal and grow.
I’m committed to working collaboratively with other professionals, including GPs, psychiatrists, and specialists, to ensure the best outcomes for my clients. Whether it’s continuing therapy during a hospital stay or providing timely reports for school assessments, I believe in transparency, communication, and a team-based approach to care.
What drives me every day is the resilience and strength of my clients. I’m constantly amazed by their ability to grow, heal, and embrace change. It’s this inspiration that makes my work fulfilling and keeps me passionate about what I do.
